Top-ranked Scottie Scheffler was voted PGA Tour player of the year for the third year in a row, the tour announced Tuesday, following a campaign in which he won nine world titles.

Scheffler won his second Masters green jacket, Paris Olympic gold, the season-ending PGA Tour Championship, the FedEx Cup Playoffs and the Players Championship this year in a trophy haul for the ages.

The 28-year-old American won the Jack Nicklaus Award with 91 percent of the votes of PGA Tour members who have played at least 15 tour events this year, beating four-time major winner Rory McIlroy and two-time major winner Xander Schauffele. major tournaments this year. .

The voting period ran from November 25 to December 4, so Scheffler defending his title at last week’s unofficial Hero World Challenge invitational event in the Bahamas wasn’t even considered in the voting. ballots.

Scheffler’s other PGA Tour victories came at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, at the Heritage a week after the Masters, at the Memorial Tournament hosted by Nicklaus and at the Travelers Championship.

He became the only player other than Tiger Woods in 2005-2007 to win the Player of the Year award three years in a row. Woods also won the award five consecutive times between 1999 and 2003.

Scheffler has 16 top-10 finishes in 19 PGA starts this year without missing a cut and also helped the United States retain the Presidents Cup by beating the Montreal Open.

Scheffler also won the Byron Nelson Award for the lowest average on tour with 68.65 strokes.
